Miklos Bodor artist's portrait

1925 - † 2010
He was born in 1925 in Nagykörű, Hungary. He graduated in drawing at the Teacher Training College in Szeged in 1963.
His first solo exhibition was in Kiskun Museum that year. In 1958 he dealt mainly with industrial art students and he led the László Hollo Fine Arts Circle for 11 years. He was concerned almost only with painting.
From 1973 he started to draw and changed his style. He developed a drawing method with a continuous line with uniform thickness. Around 1980 Miklós got to know his wife, Sophia, with whom he moved to the edge of Bugac Native Juniper Grove. Here, sorrounded by sand dune forests, marshes, boggy meadows, wet grasslands and sodic lakes, he wished to show the light on the landscape from details to the entirety. He found it embodied in the beauty of the Blue Globe Thistle.

He had been designing lace works. In 1987 he planned the "Royal Cloak of St. Stephen" lace from the original Hungarian coronation cloak, which won awards in the following year's BNV International Fair and then was given to Pope John Paul II as a gift. In 1992, he moved to Kám, a few kilometers from the Jeli Arboretum. Nicholas Bodor’s rich oeuvre contains more than 3000 graphics, a few hundred oil paintings and pastels. His works often visualize nature and are characterized by pale colors and balanced composition.
