Tamás Mág was born in Nagyvárad, Transylvania, in 1952. He studied painting, graphic art and sculpture in a Secondary School of Art. He was a student of Mottl Roman, graphic artist, at the Open University of Arts.
His graphic art works earned a National Second Prize in Bukarest, Rumania, in 1972, and then he made his début in Nagyvárad in 1974.

He settled in Hungary together with his wife and two children in 1989.
